THE CORNEA

 

It is the membrane which is situated in the front of the eyeball; it is perfectly transparent, allowing to pass the light, which crosses afterward the anterior chamber, the pupil, the lens, vitreous body to arrive at the retina.

 

Any decrease of the transparency of the cornea is settled by a dimmed vision.

The cornea is a tissue consisted of five layers: forward an anterior epithelium, behind an endothelium; between two one conjunctive papered by the membrane of Bowman forward and the membrane of Descmet behind. The total epaisseur of the cornea is of the order of 0,6 mm.

 

Keratitises indicate the affections of the cornea.

 

 

The cornea can be affected by various mechanisms:

 

–       An infection, microbial, viral or mycotic

 

–       A contusion or wounds. The cornea can infringement(achievement) in its front forming the superficial  keratitises. The infringement(achievement) of the appropriate(clean) tissue of the cornea trains(forms) the deep keratitises; they are of microbial, allergic or viral origin.

 

–       Various dermatological diseases affect the cornea, the whelk for example.

 

 TROPHIC DISEASES OF THE CORNEA

– By inocclusion completes eyelids

– By destruction of the lacrymal gland resulting a dry syndrome

– By vitamin deficiency, as the vitamin A

– By nervous achievement : the triplet or the fifth cranienne pair assures(insures) the sensibility of the cornea.
